One thing to address here. Why don't they just loosen the engine regulations if they really are interested in "going back to the old days". There's a reason why the lmp1 development battle until 2017 is still interesting despite only having 3-4 teams at the top, because they all have different approaches on their engines. The only thing f1 have to limit is fuel flow and budget, automatically pushing engine manufacturers to make efficient engines without forcing it all to be v6. Let some make an I4, or maybe V8 TT, or even V6 TT hot vee like what ferrari is doing again now.

Batteries need to be used for roughly 4.7 years before they become neutral when compared with a petrol equivalent in terms of their relative environmental impact so it's farcical to say this is more friendly to the planet. Also 30KG less weight with a much smaller car with smaller tyres means the cars will not only be slower but have worse handling.

It means that Renault is pulling out of F1 entirely. This is step one to a sale... Renault does not want any obligations to Alpine after the sale, hence, it makes sense to contractually sort this before sales.

If F1 gave up on the unworkable atrategy of having every car equally competitive in every individual race, eliminated DRS, and required all cars to keep the same aerodynamic and tuning setup throughout the season, then the teams would be faced with having to make compromises for tracks with different characteristics. E.g. cars tuned for street tracks would be less competitive on long high speed tracks, and low downforce high-speed tuned cars would do less well on short twisty street circuits. Also reduce total width and length and minimim weight to improve passing options.

Alpine will sell by the end of the year, take their Billion dollars + and invest in WEC. Bruno will be done with F1 due to the complete shit show the team has become. Hopefully Andretti becomes the new owner (with minor partners?) and then gets their shot at competing. If that happens, I coukd see Honda as a manufacturer for them due to his association with Honda in INDY Car till Cadillac is ready

So it's ok for Alpine to be a customer team and be non-competetive, but it isn't for Andretti. Nice consistency, FOM and Liberty.
